Hello hello!

A few weeks ago,

dr_jwilsonmd suggested a student/teacher mentor/academic advisor program. This will basically give every student a designated member of staff that they can go to ICly to ask questions, get advice and butt heads :D

All students will have to sign up so they can be assigned a mentor/advisor. Teachers offering to be mentors/advisors is optional, but encouraged. A set number of students will be assigned to each teacher (how many depends on how many teachers sign up).

How the teacher/student mentor relationship is manifested is up to both parties involved. Once you're paired up, you can talk to each other OOCly and decide what works best for both of you. The teacher may want to see their students once a week or two weeks or once a month for a meeting, they may want to get involved in the student's school life or they may want to handwave everything. Work it out between yourselves to see what suits you best.

Teachers please volunteer below in the Teachers thread. How much time you want to spend getting involved in this is up to you. Please don't ask for specific students.

Students please list the top 5 faculty members that you would like as your faculty advisor/mentor. All students have to pick someone.

We will do our best to give everyone their highest preference possible. If too many students want one teacher for their first preference, we'll pick names out of a hat then go to the second preference and so on.

Please sign up by Wednesday, February 7.

ETA: This is an OOC sign up to show player intentions. Your student doesn't have to know the teachers you list, and the teachers don't actually have to *want* to sign up. As with class sign-ups, we can do handwavey paperwork mistakes :)

ETA 2: Zoe, Hades, Tick, Fraser, Mickey and Swedish Chef (and Das Schnitzel) are all eligible as well if the players sign up. Faculty is faculty as long as they're not NPCs. When signing up assume that everyone is going to sign up. If they don't, there'll be a chance to change your preferences later.

What if your student is new and doesn't know 5 faculty members?

As stated on the post, your student does not have to know the teachers you list. This is an OOC sign up to show player intentions.

Can we see which teachers are volunteering?

When signing up, go with the assumption that everyone is free game. I'm going to keep the teacher comments screened, because it may suggest to some who misinterpret the instructions that people have to choose only from those who have volunteered so far, which is definitely not the case. This is just to avoid confusion, speaking from past experience with sign-ups.

If a teacher decides not to volunteer and they're on your list, there will be the opportunity to replace them.

Is it possible to cite no preference? I'd rather have a chance to be randomly assigned to broaden my RP horizons than sticking with folks I know. Would that be okay?

Sure, if that's what you'd like to do, we can randomly assign you to someone.

I know a couple characters are in that section just because they don't fit anywhere else and they're clearly not really teachers. So I say only tongue in cheek that how much do we need someone to have Das Schnitzel as a Faculty Advisor?

Das Schnitzel *may* not qualify (don't hold me to that) because she's an NPC. Chef, on the other hand, is definitely faculty and quite eligible if someone can talk his player into signing up.

Same applies for the Mountie, the tech support, the Dean, the VP and the Principal. Faculty's faculty :D
