FALL SEMESTER CLASS SIGN-UPS

Guys, this time around we're opening up class sign-ups for a much longer period of time than we usually do. This will give the new players and those of you with new characters time to figure out your schedules and sign up once you find out whether or not your applications were accepted. Please don't sign up with new characters until you've received notice that your character has been accepted.

Also please note that we've changed the minimum and maximum number of classes you can have.

Class Expectations for Students and Teachers (please read first)

1) Students are required to sign up for at least 2 classes, but no more than 4 per student. If you have more than one student, think about sticking to 2 or 3 as it's easy to get swamped and unfair to take up multiple places if you're not going to participate beyond the sign in.
2) This is not first come, first served as that is unfair due to time zones.
3) If there are too many people signing up for the one class then AFTER sign-ups close names will be drawn out of a hat to decide who gets in (so even if a class has hit 20, keep signing up as you have an equal chance of getting in as the first person!). Or we'll use a number generator if we're feeling lazy. It'll be random to be fair either way.
4) Those who do not get in will be allowed to pick a back-up if they want, but please be prepared to respond and choose your backup quickly as time is limited.
5) If you have more than one character sign up for a class please state which character you would prefer to get in. If the class reaches its maximum number of students, you will have to pick one of your characters to put forward. Same applies if you have a student character in a class that your teacher character is teaching.
6) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was a paperwork mishap.
7) TAs - you must sign up for the class you're TAing for and yes, it counts towards your class total (4 maximum).
8) TAs do not count towards the total number of people in the class (ie: a full class will have 20+TAs).
9) By signing up, you agree to participate for the entire semester (15 weeks). Attendance will be recorded as showing up to classes is how we judge your activity in the game. If you repeatedly fail to attend classes, you will be contacted. If it continues, you face possible removal from the class and eventual removal from the game.
10) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

Pick your class. Respond to that class' thread below with your character's name. Lather, rinse, repeat. Please use your character's respective journal for their sign ups.

Class Weekly Schedule

Class sign-ups close at midnight PST on Thursday, August 30. No late sign-ups are allowed without extenuating circumstances. (ie: sign up sooner than the last day or you're going to forget and look like a dorkface) Students who do not sign up in time will be removed from the game and have to reapply in December.

A course on more advanced studies in the area of mad science. Topics will include reanimating the dead, browbeating assistants into bringing you spare brains on a moment's notice, harnessing giant monsters to crush cities, and building doomsday devices. No prerequisite is required.

The art of war when faced with asymmetrical odds, whether in numbers, strength, or special powers. Although this class contains several theoretical lectures, the focus will be on Danger Shoppe simulations in order to promote understanding of bottom-up thinking on the battlefield and to school students in the ways they can use quick thinking, dynamic manoeuvres and special assets to their advantage after the broad strategies have already been put to work. Special attention will also be paid to the ins and outs of guerilla warfare, how to use it and how to defend yourself against its use.

This class aims to give students a good overview over the different professions they might choose. There will be a mix of old fashioned and modern professions. Each class will consist of one of more scene where the students must deal as thought they have a certain profession. The homework (handwavey) before each class will consist of reading up on the professions featured in the next class.

One class would focus on letter-writing (to politicians, Dear Abby, etc.), while another would be trying to communicate entirely silently while completing a variety of every-day tasks which may or may not include taking down mall security guards.

Since Chuck's students do an awful lot of arguing in History, and Chuck was a debate coach in his canon, he might as well have a class where the kids are encouraged to argue. Chuck will, like in History, not teach this well, instead teaching the kids how to win an argue without ever actually getting their points across. Possible classes may include "Generalizations," "Irrelevant Conclusions," and a debate on "Cannibalism: Trouble or Tasty?"

A look at some of the invasions Fandom has had to deal with in the past, complete with analyzing what was done right and what was done wrong. There will also be discussion on how to be prepared for the inevitable invasion in the future. Classes will be focused on past invasions -- a class on zombies, one on trolls, one on wee tiny bunnies, etc. There will be discussion but there will probably also be simulations in the Danger Shop.

Every week, Ares will order lead his class in creating and modeling fashion creations, which will be judged by the special guest judges drawn from the vast pool of Fashion Knowledge that is Fandom, leading up to the final week where Fandom's Next Top Project Runway Model will be decided. The class will have something of a focus on leather pants and proper accessorizing. After all, nothing says 'fierce' like two and a half feet of razor sharp steel.

Continuing in the same theme as the summer workshops, students will learn even more stuff that they ought to know, but don't. Topics will focus more on things of an academic or indoor nature. Stuff from the summer will not be repeated unless I feel like it -- if you missed the class, tough. Planned topics include how to bake a cake, basic Newtonian physics, poker, how to skip class without being caught, the periodic table of elements, and how to dress yourself.

The class would focus on how to use your wits and natural abilities to handle various emergency situations, ranging from 'OMG the island is attacked by Trolls' to 'How to survive on a run away camel'. There will be a balance of scenarios that students can really dig into and some more cracky stuff to break it up week to week. The emphasis will be on the students only being able to use what is natural to them, so there would be no weapons, no spell books, no outside influence but at the same time if a student's power is inherent they could have access to it.

NNSE is a class dedicated to giving students the information they need to make their first steps in their sexual development happy, healthy, and interesting, while still keeping the discussions tasteful, avoiding vulgarity. There are three major expectations within the class: students will approach the subject with an open mind; students are not to make judgments based on the questions and comments of classmates; and, no question is too outrageous or stupid to be asked. It operates on the presumption that there are a lot of really stupid myths out there, and people aren't going to learn how things really work until someone actually tells them.

Shop Class, as taught by Tim "The Toolman" Taylor. 15 weeks of 'simple' projects in the Danger Shop, where the safety protocols will be thoroughly tested by the instructor....on himself. Students will learn home improvement projects such as introduction to tools and first aid, hanging a door, installing drywall, building an addition, driving yourself to the emergency room with various injuries, framing a house, and installing a 5.1 surround sound home entertainment system with fridge and TV in The Man's Bathroom around a Lay-Z-Bowl toilet that can suck small dogs through the pipes augh augh augh!

It'll be very much the same as in the spring semester: Chuck will give the students a thorough background in US History, with little to no actual facts. Sometimes he'll want reports or handwavey homework, but most of the class will be students responding to his horribly inaccurate lectures. Possible classes may include a Brad Neeley-esque take on George Washington, Lincoln's secret love of show business, and, of course, another class period spent watching The Colbert Report.
