Pimp Mah Class!
Hello!
Enjoying some of the new features of class sign ups? Well, this post is going to go somewhat hand in hand and it's also braaaaaaaaaand new, suggestion courtesy of
notquitewright.
So, teachers, lend us your eyes! Wanna tell the game at large about your class in more detail than the class sin-ups can give? This is the post to do it! Ping in and list your class, tell everyone about it, persuade students to sign up with the seductive power of your word-thingies, answer questions, offer bribes! However you'd like to do it, this is the place to do it! Pimp it, shake it, stir it and go!
This is, of course, completely voluntary! Have fun!

Day After Doomsday
Mostly I just have to share that I saw the title of this post and my brain immediately jumped to a mental image of applying a flame decal up the side of my syllabus, some chrome and LED headlights, and a washing machine in the trunk.
Practical Marksmenship
Basically the class will be doing danger shop simulations of popular video games. There will be no point where students are teamed up against each other.
Re: Practical Marksmenship
Thrill at the intrigue of being a SAS sniper! Cower in fear at the monstrous Big Daddy and his giant drill bit of Murder! Fight off zombies while gathering gas cans from a mall to fuel an escape vehicle! Enjoy tasty tasty pie as you throw it at your fellow classmates!
Re: Practical Marksmenship
ie, if someone had a student who was say, an excellent archer....
Re: Practical Marksmenship
Ash & Price both have experience primarily with guns (though I'd imagine Ash has at least used a crossbow on occasion).
But I'm inclined to say that the students could *also* complete the exercises with another weapon in addition to learning to use the guns.
I have a question for you. WHY IS MARK SALLING SO EFFING HOT?

Sing Like a Pirate!
Jack's laugh is an evil laugh.
Plus you'll get to learn the words to "The Mermaid," "Yo Ho, Yo Ho" and "Hoist the Colors." And get rambled at by one Captain Jack Sparrow. What's not to love?
Practical Crisis Problem...Thingy (Getting Out of Trouble Badly)
The workshops will lean towards the kind where it's really like an open post where things are happening and people bounce off each other and work together and sometimes there'll be NPCs and there will always be the Doctor to hassle your character. You'll get out of the workshop what you put in to it.
But for those not up to speed, there will undoubtedly be spoilers for the first 6 episodes of Series 5 of Doctor Who. Possibly eventually beyond, depending on how the finale plays out this weekend, but definitely some stuff out of the first six.
Any questions?

Self Defense and Kickassery for Dummies
Just what says in the can, these are seven classes with you and Faith, learning how to defend yourself against the evil big bads that might or might not lurk in your world...or just knowing you can totally own the lame burglars on the alleyway. A pretty simple class, and you can even punch Faith! I mean, you can try.
That with the added bonus of extra surprises here and then, product of whatever rush of imagination I might have at the moment.
Ask away!

Terrain and You
From cityscapes to icebergs, each week we will look at a different type of terrain, and one thing you can do to make your life easier. Please be aware that there is no syllabus to this class, because Ghanima is a cruel woman and does not want you to have time to prepare for each scenario.
Students may end up covering a few of the same types of terrain, but with different activities from last time. You can see previous classes here, and I'm happy to take suggestions on what ya'll would like to do this time around.
Leadership for Social Change
I was going to teach Villainy 101, but thought it might be hard to get students to sign up. Thus, renamed it "Leadership for Social Change." This class will involve discussions and Danger Shop scenarios on how to save the world from itself, using methods that are slightly less than ethical.
Note that Dr. Horrible doesn't actually like hurting or killing people (unless they really piss him off) so his kind of evil is about Saturday morning cartoon level and involve a lot of non-lethal Mad Scientist devices.
The Five Senses
...
No, I'm kidding but this class is going to focus on using each of your five senses to the fullest extent of your capabilities. Fraser's going to attempt to teach students how to hear small noises above the din of a crowd, smell things that are out of the ordinary, see one person in the blur of a busy city street, and taste dirt. A lot of these activities will either take place in the Danger Shop or on the mainland where there's more opportunity for testing the senses in an uncontrolled environment.
Re: The Five Senses
Applied Dadaism: Fun and Games
Well then, this is totally the class for you. Plus, this session, Artie may give rides in his land canoe!
IT WILL BE PIPE.
Inventing for Dummies/M.Q.N.F.
The Mathematics of Quantum Neutrino Fields is going to be a complete crap-shoot that will be made up as I go along. Because Farnsworth teaches that class because he doesn't think anyone in their right mind will take it, and he only has that other class because his nephew submitted it without his knowledge.
He's not going to be happy to find out he's actually got to work ("I'm a professor! I don't know how to teach!"); I, on the other hand, will be absolutely tickled.

no subject
There will be one exception. One class will be replaced with a field trip. Inspired completely and totally by an RPS thread (http://community.livejournal.com/roleplaysecrets/199501.html?thread=129728333#t129728333).
Outrageous!
no subject
(no subject)
Dating, Hooking Up and Sex
It's about sex, and Dean really doesn't get why people are embarrassed about the subject. Like the long title of the class says, it's all you ever wanted to know about the subject but were afraid to ask. Dean will tell you. Even if you don't ask.
Arching 101
You see that? Babes. Babes love evil. This is just a fact. And babes who are evil? ARE LOVED EVEN MORE. Whether you are a babe or just looking for one, arching and villainy is totally the best path to instant popularity.
Arching 101 explains the long and illustrious history of the art of being an arch-nemesis from the point of view of the most noble of all positions: the henchmen. Ignore classes about villainy from those other, non-henched teachers. Henchmen see everything; we're a part of every plan from conception to execution
*rimshot*and a supervillain without henchmen...well, really hasn't attained 'super' status, has he?So come learn how to give first-rate, expert menace from two fully licensed and completely professional henchmen.#
[#Not all claims made in this pimping may be factually true. This is a class about evil. Confused by the connection? Take the class and all will be made clear.]
Great Trials in History
- Galileo, and his bullshit recantation, which is particularly awesome if you've read most of it;
- Louis XIV, put on trial by the French Revolution, and how the (mis)handling of his trial was exactly where everything went off the rails;
- the Nuremberg trials, and whether they're a symptom of "victor's justice" or if a nation can ever hold another nation responsible for war crimes;
- Lizzie Borden, and how she really, honestly got acquitted because everyone involved decided she was far too nice and decent a person to have committed the crime
- Mary, Queen of Scots, who was accused of treason against England while queen of, you know, Scotland
No syllabus yet. Questions? Suggestions? Shiny objects?

How Not to Get Taken
1) The History of Cons - and the world's greatest con artists
2) Shell Games and Pickpockets: Street Crime (Including Wall Street)
3) Online Hacking and How to 'Die' on the Internet
4) Hustling: Cards, Pool, Darts, and other Games of Skill
5) Ponzi & Pyramid & Lost Heir & Found Violin Schemes
6) Movie week: "The Italian Job" or similar
7) Run a Con!
Including the basic philosophies of cons and con artists, such as 'you can't cheat an honest man' and how you can subvert that; acting skills (and your lack thereof); accomplices (and when you can trust them) and how, of course, you can protect yourself (to some extent) from all of these cons by knowing what to look for.
Some of the class will take place in the Danger Shop, some in locations around the Island, and a couple classes in the classroom, when using computers or doing research.
