meme?: bland fandom headcanons

My workday went straight to hell upon walking in the cursed door, so why not post the thing I've been telling people I was going to post for like the last six months? We haven't done this since 2014 so I'm sure there's stuff that's been added or we've re-forgotten.

(Have I been meaning to post this for so long that I've cribbed something post ideas from it? THAT'S WHAT IT'S HERE FOR.)

Text adapted from [personal profile] momslilassassin:

Since this game has been around forever now, we collectively have a lot of either Fandom minutiae we've established and forgotten about (there used to be a Whomping Willow!) or Burning Fandom Questions we've never gotten a real answer for (just how many forms are there if you accidentally kill a student? How about if you do it on purpose?). This is a place to let your brainstorming go wild and for us to steal good headcanon and turn into real canon.

Ino's garden, that she started as a student and then Karla and Cassidy continued, isn't on the roof. It's on the grounds by the stable.

I've seen mention of pillow trees and chocolate cherry trees on the roof and if they're up there, someone else planted them up there (or the island replicated her garden)! When Ino was a student the roof-garden wasn't in use and I got permission from the admins to have her start a garden on the grounds.

Oops, that's my fault. But obviously now there needs to be a post of looking for that garden on the oof and finding it in the right spot...

Do it, do it! :D

For the record, Ino's garden is full of flowers—most of them from totally different worlds. She had some from Liir's world (including one that was multi-coloured, spiky, and glowed) and a few incredibly rare ones from Karal's world that were red-and-gold.

For trees, in addition to pillow and chocolate cherry trees, there's also clothing trees (incredibly basic clothing; simple shirts/pants/skirts) at least one shoe tree (same deal as the clothing, we're talking basic flats and boots here), blanket trees, milkweed plant (pods contain fresh milk), a cocoa-nut tree (the nuts are filled with chocolate milk), a single pie tree (all kinds of pie!), and a mys-tree (it's always going to look different and be a ~mystery~. XD )

Yeah, the garden on the roof is Bel's emo garden from waaaaaay back, and is just the one that I believe is all box planters with a bunch of little spiky plants (that I should really have Keyleth look after again sometime soon)?

There is an actual Snail Mail shipping rate at the post office, in which the mail is transported by literal snails, and yes, it's the least expensive rate you can get. There's also a turtle rate if you're willing to pay slightly more.

OOH. I do have one for this! There's a tree in the park with a GIANT freaking gash in it from when Fjord rolled a Nat20 to hit it with Amaya's giant-ass shuriken!

Honestly, that tree's lucky that's all it got.

So according to a quick search of my gmail, which I haven't cleaned out in, like . . . possibly ever, the Locker That Sometimes Eats People is number 327! It has also been known to occasionally just open up and spit random stuff out at people, apparently, or WAS known to do that back in 2006. . . .

There's a sundae at Chilly Boulder named for Ben Skywalker called the Skywalker. It's a scoop of every flavor they have, plus all of the toppings and a half dozen bananas (to make it healthy). Think the Vermonster, but with the flavor danger of a box of Bernie Bott's jelly beans.

Teenagers cannot get booze at the Devil's Nest. They can, however, get pretty much any weird soda in existence, mostly from Japan.

Remember the garage we totally have on the first floor of the dorms? I think there should still be a speeder bike down there that was originally owned by Molly. I think Rey had it last when she first got here and I kinda forgot about it but it should still be there.

Maybe Sabine needs to paint it.

Turtle & Canary Stuff!!

There's a bunch of stuff I forgot about the store in that period when I disappeared, but I've brought back some of it!

Things Brought Back that I remembered:
-Cheese Panda
-An actual Turtle & Canary at the register
-They sell everything...except duct tape. I still have no idea why that is, I just (possibly??) remember it being a thing from way before T&C was even T&C. I have NO idea why, I'm not sure I've ever known, but my headcanon has always been because Duct Tape fixes everything, so by not having it, it's a marketing ploy to force you to buy more stuff.

Things that I've Conveniently Glossed over and are No Longer Things:
-The Squishy machine actually being a sentient full-service Squishy Bot
-Liz the Robot Security Dog. (She may be dismantled or out of service, buried somewhere in a back room, perhaps).

And, of course, the usual and/or new things:
-Apu is always there. ALWAYS. *cue creepy music*
-An increase in products from the GFFA, most notably a wide selection of caf and fresh meiloroon whenever Summer can get her hands on it
-Bigger on the inside
-Can literally special order from ALMOST anywhere

I'm sure there's a million and one other things I've forgotten about the store over the years, so if anyone wants to refresh my memory on anything, I'd be happy to revive some things here and there

Also, I will admit, half the reason I bothered posting this was because I now have an icon of Summer punching a hamburger.

. . . I might know why they don't sell duct tape.

Okay, so once upon a time many many many many years ago, T&C was called "All and Sundries" and was I believe owned in part by Pippi Longstocking? (It was founded by someone played by the same character, but I feel like Pippi ended up buying it out at some point.) Who was very good friends with my first character, Nadia Santos. Who had a long-standing feud with duct tape, because I thought I was funny.

Then we ran a plot where Pippi and Nadia's boyfriend Walter kidnapped Nadia from the store and basically mummified her in duct tape while doing it. . . .

I don't actually know if that's the reason. I mean, the same player who played Pippi and Blackadder (the first owner) also played Jane Canary, so IT MIGHT BE!

I knew it was originally established with Blackadder and back when it was All & Sundries, yes, so this all very much checks as a possible reason.

And when Turtle took over with Jane, it just stuck in her brain with the duct tape thing, and therefor stuck in MY brain, too.

So. After all these years, it could just all very well be Nadia's fault. Hot damn!

(Turtle still wants to insist its marketing, though XD)

Clearly Turtle heard about it, saw the marketing potential, and ran with it like the wind.

Caritas underwent a renovation about getting a shark dropped through its roof, which means the furniture and general look got a little bit of a facelift.

As far as Ibe ever known, there's actually not a ton in the back room. I k Ka there's darts and a TV that can apparently be seen from the bar.

The zombies always have a merch table next to the stage where you can buy CDs and shirts, among other moddable things. And there's totally a timer that will spritz Febreze on the stage to negate zombie smell.

Rooms left empty long enough in the dorms stop being empty. They don't have students in them, they just develop . . . things.

This is how the sixth floor became what it once was before the remodel (anyone remember the sixth floor exploration adventures?) and is slowly happening in the empty rooms on all the other floors. . . .

Luke's has had the same three douchebags working in the kitchen as long as I've been in charge of it. There's Greg, aka Cookie, aka the cook; Ali, aka the dishwasher, who comes from one of the 'stans in Central Asia but if you ask will never answer the same one twice; and Tony, who was Billy, and before that Matty, aka the busboy, who in my head looks like John Francis Daley in that really short lived kitchen show from the mid-00s. None of them have ever aged, despite the fact that I've been running Luke's for kind of a painfully long time.

The waitstaff is an ever rotating bunch of faceless nobodies who I assume are college students from Baltimore who freak out about Fandom being Fandom and quit after at most a month.

Purple-pants Barista has a giant crush on Shuri's barista bodyguard. Because inappropriate romantic attachments are what Purple-pants Barista does.

(Also, he only actually wore the purple pants that ONE TIME, you make one out of the box fashion choice and it just has to be Creepy Clown Day. . . .)

I think the zombies actually like it at Caritas. They get taken care of in some handwavy way that Tino clearly handles, they get to work on their music as much as and however they want.

Once they get their big break, though..,

I feel like we must be a beta-testing point or something for them. If things go wrong, well, we're used to it. So we get the JetBlue of portal amenities, which explains all of the layovers :D

Oh shit, hang on. There's an actual number somewhere. Let's see if I can find it.

EDIT: Can't find it in a quick search while I'm at work, so I'm going to do a more in-depth search tonight. But I know there's a number because Shannon and I looked it up one time and laughed our asses off because we'd been assuming ICly that portals were expensive but they were cheap af for Ino and Zack to bop around the multiverse.
