2011 SUMMER (SESSION 2) WORKSHOP SIGN-UPS

Yes folks, it's time once again to sign up for workshops, for the second summer session of 2011! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while we put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) "PC" workshops are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the conceptually newer "NPC" classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Workshops

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC workshops. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC workshops, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 workshops. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any workshops that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one workshop, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).

b. Student characters played by the teacher of the workshop will also get ousted.

c. Students who have already taken the same workshop from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.

d. If the workshop still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.
3) If you're a TA for a workshop, you need to sign up for that workshop. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a workshop but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your workshops, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Workshop descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in workshops will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

Remember, we won't be taking any signups for community center classes - anyone is welcome to attend those!

FH workshop sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on June 29th, 2011. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or proper arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait for the next semester to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Since man cannot live on takeout alone, in this workshop students will learn some basic kitchen skills that will help them feed themselves and others without burning the kitchen down or giving anyone food poisoning. Students with some cooking experience and skills are welcome in this class, as well as total beginners.

Life is usually full of surprises for the intrepid hero or adventurer wide-eyed flower-bearing fancier of sticking things with the pointy end. Hurled into the chaos, you fight, thinking to shape the world find somewhere nicer to plant your herb garden. But, alas, no path is darker than when your eyes are shut struck by the pointy end of doooOOOooom. How to keep your adventure from becoming a misadventure? Now there's the question. There is great power in choices, and the right ones can damn you make you look really, really stupid just as quickly as the wrong ones. You have to admire the sheer optimism of whoever wrote this thing. My misadventures tend to end in someone screaming. Or being chased by darkspawn. Or wearing a dress. Or screaming while being chased by darkspawn while wearing a dress. In Denerim. In front of all of your friends. Ah, good times.

During this class my daughter, Morrigan and Alistair, no family affiliation, thank you, will attempt to keep you from getting yourselves killed while heroing. Heroes so often forget the basics. Like stockings. That’s why in the Templars, they made us stitch our names on our socks. Oooh, we can teach you that, too! You never know when they're going to come in handy.

You’ll learn how to dress nicely, scam people out of a decent buck, run a heist without leaving a single print, use your smile and your words to get your way, and – I can’t believe the FBI is making me write this – use those skills for the greater good. Unless we run out of time before I teach that part.

IT'S PARTY TIME! Pinkie will be sharing her party expertise with the students of Fandom High. Each week will focus on a different aspect of a successful party, from party themes to invitations to decorations, to food and music. The students will be encouraged to use their newfound party skills to throw their own great parties and spread good cheer throughout the school! Group work and brainstorming will be encouraged in each class, with examples of "bad" party ideas as well as good, strong ones (though Pinkie's pretty sure even a bad party would be terribly fantabulously amazingtastic!)

Wednesday : Period 2 : Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse: Part II : Ohio

When the apocalypse comes and all your family and friends have been reduced to mindless flesh eating monsters, there are certain rules and techniques one person can use for survival. Every week the student will be put in a simulation of a zombie attack and graded on their ability to surprise.

Twinkies will be provided for those students who go above and beyond.

Teachers Cindy and Reno will show that anything can serve as a weapon when the right hands are paired with a good imagination. This class focuses on creative self-preservation, encouraging students to employ improvisation and unconventional tactics to get themselves through challenges presented in the Danger Shop. The challenges are presented week-by-week, aiming to offer students the opportunity to exercise their survival skills in a variety of different situations, some serious, some completely unexpected, much like Fandom itself, and aim to leave the students prepared for the unpredictable future.

Learn about their habitats, their eating habits, mating habits, adorable babies, and many more exciting and fascinating things about our close cousins in the animal kingdom. It's sure to be informative, entertaining, and, well, yes, with a little bit of, you guess it, monkey business!

Are you interested in skydiving, jumping large things on a motorcycle, going over waterfalls in barrels, or other things that might frighten your parents if they knew you were doing them? Would you like to learn about some of the people who did those very things and survived before learning how to do it yourself? If so, then this is the workshop for you. NPC Class Requests

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC wokshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
