Powers and Skills and Abilities, Oh My!

For everybody's convenience in plotting, we try to keep a running list of the various abilities possessed by FH characters. If you ever find yourself saying, "Hey, I need a magic user/archer/person who can whistle Dixie while eating crackers and covering one eye," that list of powers is meant to be there for you to take a look at.

It's been a while since we did this so here we go:

  • All of the previous posts have been compiled into a spreadsheet that you can always head over to check (and will be linked on the FH community info page)

  • From now on, we only need people to fill this out for new characters, or if you have an update or correction for your older ones. If your stuff is listed over on the spreadsheet, don't worry about this!

  • We've streamlined the categories a bit to focus on "what can you do" instead of worrying about whether that's a magic or mutant or inherent ability. So the wacky powers are now just broken into spellcasting, psionic powers, and superhuman physical attributes.

Anything that is a canon power or ability of your character (including those developed at FH) and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. This is for all character types - students/alumni, teachers and townies - and covers everything, not just the wacky powers. We also appreciate yer fighting, research, weapons, support skills and whittlin', baby.

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to do this!

[[Wait for the OCD is up! Have at it. or I will throw a pony at your head.]]

Henry travels in time. His destination is uncontrolled, he lands naked, and he can't change the course of events, so as superpowers go it's not the most useful.

It's canonically identified as a physical genetic problem that shares a few markers with epilepsy and schizophrenia.

Henry is fluent in French and German, and seems to know some Latin. Mostly, he really likes bookses.

Rilla's daddy is a doctor. In 1913. So....I got nothing.

Henry's a fierce street fighter. Not good enough to beat someone with real training, good enough to get himself out of trouble most of the time.

Christian has nothing unless you need a song written on short notice.

Dru can ward places and keep anything with evil intent from entering. She can break hexes (not that canon goes into detail on how, just that she does it).

She can also throw hexes not that she really knows that yet. Also hexes aren't something to be taken lightly, so she wouldn't do it on a whim.

190 IQ. Peter is canonically a jack of all trades and master of none, so he picks up on new skills and knowledge rather readily.

Dru's got The Touch. In her case it mostly manifests as an ability to sense anyone who's supernatural in anyway (per OOC approval). For Fandom's sake, this applies to mutants as well, again per OOC approval.

Not that she knows exactly how to do it yet, but as a damphir, she'll be able to give her vampire aspect a physical form, in her case an owl. It's invisible, but it can definitely cause damage.

Yes, I know, my canon is cracked.

Summer knows her way around firearms and is a fairly accurate shot, especially when using handguns (though she prefers to use them as a last resort).

Razzum frazzum canon updates making me have to edit like a mad fiend.

Zack isn't magical on his own, but he does have access to a whole mess of items from back home. Potions, ethers, phoenix downs because shiny yellow feathers can totally bring you back from the dead kthx, and materia, which allows you to tap into the power of the Ancients to cast maaagical spells and such.

Materia is so, soooo much easier for Zack to get his hands on than it is for Reno. He'll find it killing monsters, he'll order it online. It's everywhere.

And he's been working with it a good deal on missions back home, so he has a pretty impressive arsenal, including several healing spells, a few elemental spells, some poison and other status-effecting items, a few materia that will let him summon deities and dragons and large yellow birds, and so on.

On top of that, he now has the ability to merge materia with other materia to make completely different ones, or to make the ones he has stronger. So the spells that he has at his disposal can pretty much change day by day, depending on how adventurous he's feeling with his supplies.

Dru's got super speed, super strength, agility. All the usual damphir traits....

Dru's quite competent with most small weapons.

I wasn't sure if this would go in support or not, so it's going here. Summer is a skilled surfer and scuba diver, having grown up around the water. She also handles underwater & regular recording equipment with ease and knows her way around boats (it helps that her dad and uncle were Navy SEALs).

Given her small size, Dru's been trained to fight dirty. She can hold her own, but she'd have a hard time against a stronger opponent. As she gets closer to 'blooming' and her physical abilities grow, she'll get stronger.

Zack is a member of SOLDIER, which means that when he signed up, he pretty much signed away his right to decide what they're going to do to his body. All SOLDIERS go through a sort of glorified super-soldier treatment that combines radiation with alien DNA, and then tosses some technological implants into the brain for good measure and great slot machine justice.

Yes. Zack has a slot machine in his head. No, quarters will not come out.

What does all of this mean?

This treatment means that he's faster, more agile, stronger, and more resilient than any typical human could hope to become, to a somewhat extreme degree. He dodges bullets and he jumps out of helicopters onto moving trains. He can also face down deities and survive being shot at by dragons from space who can blow holes in the moon... And he'll happily jump at least ten feet in the air from a standstill. Physics need not apply.

The DMW (Digital Mind Wave) system was more or less installed into Zack along with his Mako and Jenova-cell treatments. For the most part, the DMW functions seem completely randomized, because this is that slot-machine-in-the-brain thing. So! I'm going to summarize the different functions of the DMW as follows:

Status Modifiers: Grant Zack temporary bonuses, such as invincibility or increased endurance. These modifiers last from twelve to twenty seconds, which is what, two pings? Now and again, he might randomly feel a burst of stamina or strength in battle, but that's about the full extent that this feature of the DMW will come into play.

Limit Breaks: Limit Breaks in the FFVII universe are typically what happens when your character gets pushed too far. They're kind of a souped up attack that does a bit more damage, and each person has a limit break specific to themselves. The DMW has taken that system and mucked around with it some, so that the people who have an influence on Zack's life strongly affect the outcome of the limit break. Zack's DMW slots are all full, now, with people from back home, and he's lost the ability to do the one that was originally specific to himself as a result.

Summer possesses a Master's degree in Marine Biology and worked as a researcher for NUMA, so she knows the ins and outs of gathering information (on the computer or otherwise).

She has a basic understanding of German and is fluent in French and, I believe, Spanish (if I'm remembering correctly).
