Powers and Skills and Abilities, Oh My!

For everybody's convenience in plotting, we try to keep a running list of the various abilities possessed by FH characters. If you ever find yourself saying, "Hey, I need a magic user/archer/person who can whistle Dixie while eating crackers and covering one eye," that list of powers is meant to be there for you to take a look at.

It's been a while since we did this so here we go:

  • All of the previous posts have been compiled into a spreadsheet that you can always head over to check (and will be linked on the FH community info page)

  • From now on, we only need people to fill this out for new characters, or if you have an update or correction for your older ones. If your stuff is listed over on the spreadsheet, don't worry about this!

  • We've streamlined the categories a bit to focus on "what can you do" instead of worrying about whether that's a magic or mutant or inherent ability. So the wacky powers are now just broken into spellcasting, psionic powers, and superhuman physical attributes.

Anything that is a canon power or ability of your character (including those developed at FH) and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. This is for all character types - students/alumni, teachers and townies - and covers everything, not just the wacky powers. We also appreciate yer fighting, research, weapons, support skills and whittlin', baby.

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to do this!

[[Wait for the OCD is up! Have at it. or I will throw a pony at your head.]]

Dru can ward places and keep anything with evil intent from entering. She can break hexes (not that canon goes into detail on how, just that she does it).

She can also throw hexes not that she really knows that yet. Also hexes aren't something to be taken lightly, so she wouldn't do it on a whim.

Razzum frazzum canon updates making me have to edit like a mad fiend.

Zack isn't magical on his own, but he does have access to a whole mess of items from back home. Potions, ethers, phoenix downs because shiny yellow feathers can totally bring you back from the dead kthx, and materia, which allows you to tap into the power of the Ancients to cast maaagical spells and such.

Materia is so, soooo much easier for Zack to get his hands on than it is for Reno. He'll find it killing monsters, he'll order it online. It's everywhere.

And he's been working with it a good deal on missions back home, so he has a pretty impressive arsenal, including several healing spells, a few elemental spells, some poison and other status-effecting items, a few materia that will let him summon deities and dragons and large yellow birds, and so on.

On top of that, he now has the ability to merge materia with other materia to make completely different ones, or to make the ones he has stronger. So the spells that he has at his disposal can pretty much change day by day, depending on how adventurous he's feeling with his supplies.

The biggest thing about Asuna, is that she has the opposite ability of magic users, she has the ability to cancel magic.

She can deflect and dispel any magic spells cast on her and she can destroy any magical barriers with her fist or her swords.

The limitations to her Magic Cancel is her ignorance with her ability (in this case, instead of completely dispelling magic, her clothes tend to vanish and/or explode) and if the environment around her was already spelled.

Gunn comes from a universe where magic works, and he can do spells that any schmoe with the proper recipe book and spicerack can do, but he's got no inherent magical ability of his own.

And yes, I copied that directly from Xander's ability description. Cut and paste is so much easier.

Rinoa is a newly-awakened Sorceress, one of the few people in her world who can use magic naturally. She has immense power at her fingertips, but usually keeps most of it under lockdown. She can bust out the Sorceress powers any time she likes, but since Sorceresses have a very hard time shutting off again, she'll only be doing that here in Fandom if the situation looks particularly grim (BDEs, mostly), or if she's trying to learn control in a safe Danger Room-type setting.

While her normal self, she can cast what's considered "normal" magic in her world, in varying strengths -- elemental magic, healing spells, status ailments (i.e. Sleep, Silence, Slow), status boosts (i.e. Haste, Protect, Regen) and a few pull-out-the-stops moves like Holy, Meltdown, Pain, and Meteor (rocks fall, everyone takes damage).

Sorceress Mode is called "Angel Wing" in game, because she grows white, feathery wings and then goes into a frenzied mage state. While a Sorceress, all of her magic is boosted 5x, and she casts like it is going out of style, fast and furious. No need to recharge anything. But she won't use healing magic or boosts at that point, because lol heal yourself, she is killing bitches.

... And then Squall or someone else will need to talk her down and tell her to put the wings away and come back now, please.

Squall has several super-powerful beings called Guardian Forces that he is "junctioned" to. Aside from occasionally causing memory loss, they allow him to cast spells -- but he only has a finite number of charges he can cast before he has to get more.

The spells are your basic Final Fantasy fare -- fire, ice, lightning, cure, poison, sleep, etc., and he arrived in Fandom with 100 of each of them.

He can also summon the GFs themselves to manifest and attack enemies.

Chloe is a born Necromancer. This isn't a magic skill or power, it's an ability that she was born with -- and isn't that fond of. She can feel when there's a dead body near and she can bring the dead back to life to get information from them. She can also put the dead down to rest again afterward.

Thanks to her recent canon update, Chloe is also able to control ghosts and banish them to make them leave people alone. She doesn't know yet that she can control them, but she can summon her dead BFF, Liz, at any time now.

((*is cheating by C/P from her info post, yay!)

Cassidy can do magic and cast spells.

BASIC CRAFT--

*Call in/Vanish items
*Move on air
*Call/Float objects
*Create energy bolts/weapons/etc
*Pass objects through other objects
*Create witchlights
*Create witchfire
*Speak on psychic threads
*Tell psychic scents (much like auras, though they can tell caste, identity, emotions, and all sorts of things from them.)

*Create shields of various strengths, sizes, and shapes. This includes:

***Sight-shields
***Aural shields
***Inner walls and barriers protect the mind and spirits of the Blood so their thoughts cannot be heard and their emotions cannot be influenced by Craft. This can also help protect them against someone trying to cast any kind of compulsion spell.
***Shielding from a physical or magical attack.

QUEEN CASTE ABILITIES-- These are in addition to the Basic Craft abilities

*Rules the Blood
*Heals the hearts of the people
*Heals the land -- If someone sees Cassidy prick her finger in the garden and let it drop onto plants or dirt, she's actually trying to help.

Dru's got The Touch. In her case it mostly manifests as an ability to sense anyone who's supernatural in anyway (per OOC approval). For Fandom's sake, this applies to mutants as well, again per OOC approval.

Not that she knows exactly how to do it yet, but as a damphir, she'll be able to give her vampire aspect a physical form, in her case an owl. It's invisible, but it can definitely cause damage.

Yes, I know, my canon is cracked.

Miles can talk to the deaaaad. And by that I mean he can find hidden bodies, find out how someone died, ask them some specific questions like if they hid something somewhere etc. idk. It works however the writers feel like making it work that week.

I'm gonna put it here because Misc is made of win and silly.

Delirium is and Endless, and the anthropomorphic representation of insanity (and yet at the same time, one can infer that she also represents sanity some times). She can pretty much twist the world in any way she wants, regardless of whatever rule put by whatever entity, be it god or ridiculously strong super powered being. She can hack your world. This ranges from her incredibly detailed and realistic hallucinations to actually turning anything into the hallucination (she can make someone thing he/she is a butterfly, or make that person become one, or several, or a cupcake).

Now imagine her being able to do that to the entire planet at once. Thanks God Del is crazy and broken enough she rarely puts her powers to use.

Telepathic speech, within a limited range. Jonothon's voice will carry about as far as a normal human voice, but without the same pesky restrictions that sound has. It will travel through walls and other such barriers without suffering at all, and he has the ability to broadcast to as many people as he wants to, or to filter his voice so that only certain people pick up on it when he talks.

A mild sense of empathy. He can pick up on general feelings of wrongness, particularly when they're being felt ridiculously strongly in his general vicinity. He can also sense spikes in supernatural power going on around him, such as Jak's dark eco... Which tends to give him a bit of a headache. Oops.

He has the capacity to pick up on surface thoughts, if they're thought loudly enough and in his direction. Odds are he has the capacity to dig deeper than that, should he feel up to it, but he doesn't particularly care for his psi-talents in the first place, so he hasn't put any effort into developing this particular aspect of them.

Something that he very, very rarely touches on at all, because it tires him out quickly and because he just hates meddling around with this sort of thing in the first place, is his ability to amplify his emotions themselves, to show other people his intentions. He did this all of once in canon, to prove to a young bomb survivor that the scary boy with the flaming face wasn't out to get her, and then explained that not everybody is worth putting that effort out for. Apparently he can also amplify the emotions and senses of other people, as well, because he then goes on to borrow a certain wall-crawler's Spidey-Sense and pass it along to the population of a whole neighbourhood for just long enough to save the day.

... That last bit, he isn't likely to do a hell of a lot of. Like, ever. Really, he's not likely to do a lot of this on a regular basis. His powers, for the most part, scare the living heck out of him, so he prefers to just speak and leave it at that.

Asuna is receptive to telepathic communications because of her Pactio Card and she has some sensitivity to the preternatural and a danger sense for any oncoming attacks.

Now that we have actual canonical word on a special ability of Zayne's, I need to revise the last paragraph of his Psychic Abilities entry.

Zayne has what is alternately called a "special relationship with the Force" and "a learning disorder." Whenever he uses the Force to affect an outcome, whether intentionally or subconsciously, he knocks the Force out of whack and it needs to create additional outcomes to stabilize. This means that wildly improbable things tend to happen around Zayne, often resulting in property destruction, awkward meetings, and sudden death for anyone who tries to kill him.

Re: Psychic/Psionic Abilities

[identity profile] telekineticfury.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Vance is a mid-level telekinetic. He can project a blue nimbus of telekinetic energy that can be used to strike opponents, lift objects, and form walls and shields. When he surrounds himself in the blue energy, he can fly (not swiftly) and it acts as a thin armor.

His telekinesis currently isn't effective at all when he needs to divide his focus beyond a couple of targets. If he exerts himself at all with his powers, he will suffer from psychic nosebleed.

While accessing her Sorceress abilities (i.e., wings out) Rinoa can use telekinesis, as well as put up kinetic barriers.

(There are other powers that Sorceresses are shown to have, but canon is vague and fuzzy and some of them are problematic from an OOC perspective (mind control and possession) so I'm going to say she either doesn't know how to use them or chooses not to.)

She also has had at least one vision of the future, but she doesn't know it yet and thinks it was just a bad dream, as the event hasn't happened yet. It's rare, and only for major, huge catastrophes such as "Squall was stranded outside of the time/space continuum."

Despite being a 100-proof skeptic, Scully has either a mystical or psychic or maybe just spiritual ability to see things other people don't. Or maybe she's just really observant? Anyway, at this point in her canon she's seen and recognized a boy with stigmata, angels, the ghosts of her father and her sister, and possibly a demon or two. She'll never admit it, though, outside of a confessional or a truth spell.

Henry travels in time. His destination is uncontrolled, he lands naked, and he can't change the course of events, so as superpowers go it's not the most useful.

It's canonically identified as a physical genetic problem that shares a few markers with epilepsy and schizophrenia.
