Here is an intro and primer to the medical facilities of [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh.

Snip, snip, sweetheart. )

Also, if you have a character with medical skills or magical healing abilities and would like to take a shift or two at the clinic, email me or come in during one of Christian's shifts. We can use the help! :)

It's a new semester, which means new classes, new students, and all sorts of opportunities to give detentions!

So what's this detention thing all about?

Teachers have the power to hand out detention to students, and they don't even need a good reason. Student annoying you? Did they leave a horse in your office? Smart off in study hall? Toss them in detention! Detentions can be handed out both inside and outside of class.

OOC, you must let the student's player know that detention might be looming, so it's not a complete surprise. This can be done either by email, IM, or OOC notes within the thread.

A Fandom High Office post goes up every weekday, and it has a thread for teachers to record the names of students who've received detention.

How does it work?

Detention used to be held on Saturdays and last the entire day, with most detentions being held in the Danger Shop. We've been looking at a way to make detention shorter and to mix it up a little, and this is what we've come up with.

From now on, Detention will last for half a day only -- Saturday morning or afternoon, depending on the convenor's availability, and it will be held only three weeks out of four: the first Saturday in each month will be detention free! It will also be cancelled if there's an event on Saturday, so players don't miss out on pre-planned fun stuff.

Even though it's been the norm, detention doesn't have to be held in the Danger Shop: there's an entire island to choose from. Detention also doesn't need to be cracky, nor wildly difficult, nor does the interaction need to rely on the Teacher. Remember, you can always recruit other players to play detention NPCs!

Feel free to make students interact with each other while your Teacher relaxes and watches the fun. Lifting events or plots from books, TV, film, even songs is perfectly acceptable! (I personally want to see a detention consisting of a greased pig contest.)

The only proviso is that while it is IC punishment, it should be fun to play OOC.

Who Can take Detention

Detention may be taken by a single Teacher, or Teachers can pair up to take it. Also, from now on, a Teacher will be welcome to involve a Townie in the detention. For example, one of the Teachers might think it was a great idea to round up the students and take them down to the church, to spend the morning cleaning up for Gabriel. Fun times!

All we ask is that you work it out OOC beforehand - no descending on a townie as an OOC surprise, though an IC surprise could be entertaining.

Detention could also take the form of community service to the school or town, or a beautification project, particularly if there's an event coming up.

Volunteering and you

Teachers
We're going to put up a post once a month, asking for Teachers to volunteer to take detention and for Townies to put up their hand if they're interested in helping with detention. That way, if a Teacher wants to rope a Townie into helping they know where to start!

If you can spare a Saturday morning or afternoon to have fun with a small group of students, (and wow that sounds dirty), please consider signing up! We can't do it without Teacher involvement, after all.

Students

A post for students to volunteer to be randomly selected for detention by the handy dandy RNG will go up weekly. With the change to only half a day, it leaves the rest of Saturday free for weekend playing!

Suggestion Box

Have a great idea for a detention? Want to share it with the world, or at least this bit of it? Here's your chance! There will be a link to a Detention Suggestion Box post, with comments screened, so please drop your ideas there. And, of course, due credit will be given if they're used.

And that's detention in a very large nutshell! Questions, comments, suggestions, ideas are absolutely welcome and encouraged.

Hands up how many people own/read/have seen a book, DVD, or game that they would never ever have considered except for this game? *raises hand* I actually own a TON of stuff I never would have even looked at, simply because the characters in the game were just That Awesome.

Fandom Spotlight is your chance to get even more exposure for your fandom!

Given how many fandoms are represented in game, there's a good chance that at least half the people playing aren't familiar with yours. But the longer people play, the more that changes.

You innocently start playing with someone from a fandom you don't know and next thing you know you're infected intrigued. Unless you can get your hands on the source material, AND find time to devour it obsessively read/watch/play it, you'll only ever have that tiny taste.

Coming from the other side, it can be hard when only a handful of people in the game know your canon. If you want to do plot with those who don't, there can be a heck of a lot of infodumping, and it means you have the constant, naggging knowledge that there are people in the world who don't know how AWESOME your fandom is!

Spotlight on Fandom is way to change all that!

Each week, one or two players will get to pimp their fandom to the whole game. You can talk about any aspect you like: plot, your character, other characters you'd like to see in the game, the creators, history, future speculations. It can be as long as you like, from endless saga to brief overview.

These will be posted each Sunday, giving people a chance to squee, boggle, or ask lots of questions. One of the only provisos is that any major spoilers that haven't made it into the game: 1) Go behind a cut and 2) Be clearly labelled as such. If in doubt, cut and warn.

What we need from you

Volunteers! Sign up in this post if you want to do a Fandom Spotlight for your fandom (or fandoms, if you have more than one character).

If you share a fandom with another player/s, then there will need to be coordination between you to work out who will write/post what.

Here is a list of the fandoms which have already been done. There was another post in which people had voluntered to do a spotlight, but we're going to start fresh this year.

If you previously volunteered in the old post and you're still interested in doing a spotlight for your fandom, please sign up again in this post.

To make things easier for my poor brain, please volunteer from the journal of the character whose fandom you're signing up to do.

When do we need it?

Every Sunday, the all powerful RNG will be consulted to make the call as to which two fandoms from the list of volunteers will be selected for the following week. A post will go up announcing them (and if you absolutely can't make it that week, just let me know on the post).

Questions? Comments? Volunteers?
YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE OCD.
There is now OCD. Please commence commenting.

[with much love to Monster, who originally came up with this and ran it, and from whom I stole a bunch of words, for she is far awesomer then I.]
