Do YOU Need This Form?

  • If your character is a current teacher and would like to continue teaching, or a current townie who'd like to start or return to teaching, you DO need this form. Just scroll on down and fill it out below.

  • If your character is an alum/expat who would be returning to the island to teach, first YAY, and second, you DO need this form. Please drop us an e-mail at fandomhighadmins@iambicnut.com to let us know you plan to bring the character back, then mosey back here to fill out the class proposal below!

  • If your character was dropped from the game and you'd like to bring them back as a teacher, also YAY, but you'll need to do that by submitting a character application as described here and including your class plans in that. So congratulations, you DON'T need this form!

  • If you are a current teacher wanting to move to townie status, just drop us an e-mail to say so; you also DON'T need this form. If your teacher is running away for good, tell us over here in the dropped character post.

What If I Want To Teach Adults At The Community Center?

Not this time. As mentioned in the applications announcement, we're continuing the twist from previous summers: instead of having Community Center courses, we're going to have ONLY Summer Camp workshops that will be open to both students and adults!

Who can take your workshop will be up to the teacher, but the idea is that we want the teachers and townies to have the chance to participate in some of the fun, silly stuff that's traditionally a part of FH Summer Camp. So you can choose to run a regular students-only workshop, an adults-only workshop, or one that anyone can join, but they should all be designed with summer fun shenanigans in mind, and even the adults-only workshops will have the use of the FH campgrounds and school facilities.

(Bear in mind that the "adults-only" workshops will be happening near the students, though, and don't plan anything so visibly unsavory that Zoe would chuck the class off the roster and your character off the top of Selkie Peak. Inappropriate shenanigans can happen with proper OOC warnings in the class - we're all adults here even if the characters aren't - but plausible IC deniability is the key.)

What's Needed For A Workshop?

  • The ability to come up with 7 weeks worth of classes.
  • The ability to post each class by noon Pacific or 3pm Eastern the day it's scheduled (you can also post the night before).

  • The ability to interact with your students (slow play is fine, you don't need to be around all the time).

Your adult character's form will need to be in these comments by Sunday, April 24th for great scheduling justice!

In order to prepare for the summer terms, we need to know what your plans are for your students. Graduates are welcome to stay for the summer as long as they TA for a workshop (it's up to you to find a teacher to TA for), or have a job in town where they can continue to work (as long as there's a post of them at their job at least once a week). For the second summer term, you can also have your newly-minted grad run a workshop of their own.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • You can leave at the end the first term if you'd like (the beginning of July), or go home for the first term and come back for the second.

  • The IC deadline for those who are planning to leave the island (graduates who aren't sticking around, students who are going away for the summer, and students who are leaving the game or becoming expats) is Friday, May 6th.

  • Your graduate can ICly plan to stick around, but be whisked home partway through the term unexpectedly. This means their only option for summer employment will be a job in town- they cannot run a workshop or TA for one if they're leaving before it's completed.

If you've got some summer plans, even if you are not a graduating senior, that we need to know, please fill out the following information to let us know what you're planning (replies will be screened):

Hello, all! You might have read the earlier BDE post and thought "I have ideas on how to be a fan!" Well, this is the post for you!

What we need are people who will be around and available to play from Wednesday, April 27th through Sunday, April 30th. Playing a fan means you have to create the journal, find a PB, and get your kid out there. These can be totally original characters, or you can base them off of something (ie, "that girl on Tumblr that hasn't stopped talking about Tom Hiddleston for a year straight", "the serial fic starter with 106 WIPs on AO3"; "the 'but actually' Redditor"; "the 'it's about ethics in gaming!!11!' Twitter troll; "the 'I've just showed up on the internet and all of these arguments are new to meeeee' Discord kid"; "the casual fan who thought they'd come to this convention to make friends but omg yikes"; "the Big Name Fan whose veeeeeeeeeeery specific kink warped how everyone watched this show for three seasons"; "the annual flouncer now on their fifth email name"; "the viral TikToker"; or our favorite, "the Fandom Old who is just. so. tired. of the discourse.") Just remember that these should not be canon characters.

Submit your application below, please! We're leaving them unlocked to encourage more of you to apply.

EDITED TO ADD: Please have your apps in by Sunday, April 24th!

Big Sibs!

It's that time again!

Big Siblings

New students need old volunteers to help them get settled in, right? Right. So, we need IC student volunteers to pair up with incoming students and help them adjust to Fandom's little quirks. (And by 'little quirks' we clearly mean 'their fellow students turning into monsters' and so forth.) The idea behind this pairing is for the new student to have at least one person they can go to if they're not settling in too well and to ask questions and generally get answers that don't suck. OOCly-speaking, the big sibling's player should be available to help out the little sibling's player. Sometimes minimal help is needed as the little sibling will be a current player (or super duper fast at getting into the flow of FH) but if the player is new, you will act as their liaison and mentor while they get settled into the game. You need to be available OOCly to answer their questions, guide them in the right direction while they get used to the game, and hold their hand so they're not overwhelmed. Not literally, unless you have USB hands, which would be kind of awesome, actually.

Buddy System

This is the teacher version of the big sibling program. The idea is that you currently play a teacher or administrator, and your character is willing to show a new teacher/faculty member the ropes of living and teaching in Fandom. ICly your character will be there to answer any questions and take the poor teacher drinking after their first week (knowing these classes, the students might need it more). OOCly, if the player is new (or new to teaching) then you'll be on hand to provide answers to their questions, help them out and generally guide them while they get used to the game and/or RP teaching.

Please volunteer if you fit the following:

Your character won't be antagonistic about helping out someone (ICly, your character can be signed up against their will, but, please don't sign up if they're not going to be helpful to a new student or teacher).

You have the time to field questions from a newbie, and your character will be around consistently for the first few weeks of the semester (for the record, newbies arrive Saturday, May 7th).

You're genuinely willing to help. This game is less big than it used to be, but there's still A Lot. It can be intimidating at first. Having someone who's a friendly face in the crowd helps new players out a heck of a lot, but being assigned to someone who disappears or isn't willing to help takes a lot of the fun out of starting up.

So, after reading all that, if you think you're up to the job and you think your character will be helpful to a new student or teacher character, use the OCD threads below to sign up for the appropriate job! Please sign up in the appropriate thread of this post by 11:59 p.m. Pacific, Sunday May 1st if you're interested!

As always, if you have any questions you don't want to ask in the post, please contact the admins and we'll get back to you as speedily as possible!
